Is your mind a safe place to be?

This is in Response to the Questions and Reflections for June 18, 2008:
the mind is a tool, like a hammer...when you need it, pick it up, do the job, then put it away again...but the general habit is to let the mind go on and on and on and on, until we've lost the knack of silence and inner stillness...we end up not only believing the non-stop muttering of the mind, but identifying with it as well!...with continual practice, however, we can disassociate from mental processes and (re-)learn to observe our own thoughts as they occur...
